When you find a paper that would help your grade level students, try to put it where it is seen frequently: in their textbook, on the wall, on a bulletin board, in a flip chart....

APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS BULLETIN BOARD

INTERACTIVE BULLETIN BOARD.  This board allows students to review one syllable word families.  It also gets students out of their seats and moving in a purposeful way in the classroom.The bulletin board needs a blue background.  Make 4 inch circles and label with your word families you have studied: ing, ot, ug, ed, ow, ad, in, an, iik, ar, at, ow, ad, .  To make sure you have enough raindrops to fill each petal, write on the back of the circles all of the words that can be made:  ad - b, c, d, f, g, h, l, m, p, s.  This can also be extended to more than one letter gl, br.  Make enough raindrops and attach velcro to each raindrop tip and to the petal.  Make flower stems and leaves, staple the empty petals onto each stem, staple your raindrops all over the sky and you are ready.  Title APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS.  Then let your students "work" the bulletin board.  This could be a CENTER if you do them, or free time.

FRIENDSHIP POEM

Pair students up for this project.  Have students fill out Web sheet alone.  Give students time to talk about their Web sheets with their partner.  Once they are finished, hand out the Friendship Poem.  Explain the format and have the students work on it together.  It can be published on the bulletin board, on the web and end up in the Journal/Memory Book.

HOW TO MAKE A SNOWMAN

Simple way to practice writing 'HOW TO' report. Make a class book or put in Journal/Memory books.

FREE TIME IDEAS FOR WRITING AND CREATIVITY

I ALWAYS SET UP THE PAPER I WANTED THE STUDENTS TO USE.
1.  Choose a poem to copy.  Copy it neatly and correctly.  Illustrate the poem.
2.  Draw a fall design.  Use fall colors. 
3.  Use the leaves to make a design.  Decorate each leaf.  Use fall colors to color the picture.  Each leaf should be a different color.
4.  Think about something your family likes to do together.  Draw a picture of you and your family doing your favorite thing.  Write on the bottom of the paper what you are doing.  Make sure you name each person in the picture.
5.  Draw and color a picture of you iun your Halloween Costume.  Write one or more sentences telling about it.
Pick out a "How To Draw Book".  Find an item you want to draw.  Follow the directions.  Add background to compliment your drawing.  Color it neatly.

INVITE PILGRIMS INTO YOUR CLASSROOM

          What a unique way to have SEATWORK/CENTER WORK REVIEW.  Hand out one part a day for students to complete skillwork and color neatly.  Skill work can cover all areas of the curriculum...MATH, SPELLING, GRAMMAR...After every part is completed have a parent assemble for the children and post in the hallway. What a nice surprise for your students!

THE WISHBONE - I WISH FOR

Remember the anticipation you felt as you made a wish and pulled as hard as you could on the turkey wishbone?  There's a little bit of dreamer in all of us.  Ask students to make a wish and explain why they would like this wish to come true.  Challenge the class to think of non-material wishes... for their family, for the environment, or for the world.  Have them write their wish and explanation inside the wishbone reproducible.    Cut out the wishbone and glue them to a piece of construction paper.  Display them on a bulletin board with the title "MAY ALL YOUR WISHES COME TRUE."  End product can be put in a Class Book or in Journal/Memory Book later.  You may choose to post on your website also.
