Print on card stock.  Punch a hole.  Thread a small ribbon.  You can tie in a bow or add beads at the bottom of the ribbon.  Sign your name and date.

TORN PAPER FLOWERS

Need to bring a breath of fresh air into your classroom  for SPRING?  This is a very easy paper project.  Have a variety of scrap paper available to the students to choose from.  Children do better if the project is demonstrated first.  You can add a poem or connect to a book like Miss Rumphius.  These would be a beautiful gift for the elderly that stay at home!

VALENTINE STITCHERY

Materials:

9"x10" red burlap piece

Heart Templates larger than Heart Writing Paper (6")

Heart Tag

Printed Heart Poem - signed by child

26" white yarn

Large head needle

Directions: Student traces heart template onto burlap using white chalk  Start stitching at the point.  Tape the end on the back so yarn will not slip. Stitch on the chalk line using pointer finger as a spacing for the stitches.  Tape or tie off when finished.  Could choose to pull to the front and tie a bow.  Sign heart poem.  Staple inside the stitched heart.  Roll the burlap, tie with white yarn closed with a bow.  Attach a heart tag. 

HEART BOOKMARK GIFT

Need a cute, quick, inexpensive gift for your students or as a service project to the elderly?  Print out a set of papers, trim with zigzag scissors, and sign.  Cut a 9" white ribbed ribbon and glue 2 large hearts at the top on the ribbon and 2 small hearts at the bottom on the ribbon.  Staple or tape to the paper.  You can put in an envelope or just hand out as is.

WONDERING WHAT TO DO ABOUT LEFTOVER WRAPPING PAPER

VERY CUTE IDEA.  Get out the ORIGAMI BOOKS and recycle those small pieces of wrapping paper.  Have parents send in their left over pieces of wrapping paper instead of throwing them away.  Have students make a variety of birds and string them to hang from the ceiling.  Could be a gift project - maybe even give to Elderly Home so they can enjoy the movement and color during the dreary winter months.

100th DAY SCHOOL ACTIVITY

Our school had each student bring in pennies.  The goal was 100 pennies per student.  Each class did their own activities that incorporated graphing and math skills that were age appropriate.  Older classes partnered with younger classes to help with their projects.  On the 100th DAY OF SCHOOL an assembly was held to give the school total and present the amount to the chosen charitable cause.   Idea was taken from - The Mailbox.com

POPPERS FOR OUR SOLDIERS PROJECT

                                                                                                                                    

This projects is a spin off from I'M AN EXPERT PROJECT  assigned to 

Third Graders to

meet a Language Arts Concept.  It would be given out late October as a Home Project.  Projects would be presented in class the last three days of December.  The Popper Project went over so well, we adopted it as a yearly Service Project for our Soldiers.  Students brought in toilet paper rolls they had been collecting since September, red, white, and blue tissue papper, ribbon, and decorations, such as glitter, sequins, stickers.  They also brought in bags of wrapped candy.  One afternoon we made poppers at different stations manned by parent volunteers.  Stations included the STEP 2 - wrap popper and tie one end, STEP 3 - fill the popper with candy, sequins, glitter, stickers..., STEP 4 - tie the other end, STEP 5 - decorate the popper with stickers (less is better), LAST STEP - curl the ribbons and attach a signed note card.  Classes chose to make their own poppers in their classroom or they came down to our room in small groups to make one.  Teachers also came to make a popper during their break time.  Parents, Teachers and Students (students did in class) were asked to write short Valentine Cards telling the soldiers how much we appreciate them. All poppers were packed in paper boxes that the school saved for us.  Each box had some of the Valentine Cards.  Before the lid was put on - the extra sequins, glitter, stickers and candy were sprinkled on top.  All boxes were packed ready to be shipped prior to break.  We then found families in our school that had loved ones overseas and gave them boxes to ship in January to be received for Valentines.  Everyone enjoyed this project.  One year a soldier responded back to us and sent us the flag below!
