APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS BULLETIN BOARD

INTERACTIVE BULLETIN BOARD.  This board allows students to review one syllable word families.  It also gets students out of their seats and moving in a purposeful way in the classroom.The bulletin board needs a blue background.  Make 4 inch circles and label with your word families you have studied: ing, ot, ug, ed, ow, ad, in, an, iik, ar, at, ow, ad, .  To make sure you have enough raindrops to fill each petal, write on the back of the circles all of the words that can be made:  ad - b, c, d, f, g, h, l, m, p, s.  This can also be extended to more than one letter gl, br.  Make enough raindrops and attach velcro to each raindrop tip and to the petal.  Make flower stems and leaves, staple the empty petals onto each stem, staple your raindrops all over the sky and you are ready.  Title APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS.  Then let your students "work" the bulletin board.  This could be a CENTER if you do them, or free time.

DAILY 5

This is a nice way to work on skills that are giving your students a little trouble.  Set up 5 questions for the students to answer each morning when they arrive in class.  This gives the students a "job" immediately, to help them settle into the school day.  The photo shows working on telling time to the half hour.  I copied clocks onto heavy paper and made them large enough for students to see from the back of the room.  Laminate and you can use all year as the skills in telling time change.  The students need a paper that sets up a Daily 5 answers for each day of the week.  Check the work with the class prior to recess.

GREAT FOR 1st - 3rd GRADES...Directions to Make:  Print this photo and copy it onto an overhead clear sheet.  Show it on the overhead machine.  Trace the tooth on to white poster board and then draw the 2 children.  Color the children and laminate.  Outline the tooth in pink, making sure there are large letters that are the same color.  Put the large letters on the tooth and laminate.  Copy smaller teeth the same color pink and laminate.  Then copy smaller white teeth (smaller then the pink) and cut out enough for the number of students you will have that year.  Write each child's name on a white tooth and tape it over a pink tooth, that is a bit larger, so it helps make the white tooth stand out from the wall.  Find a place on your wall to put this bulletin board. You can change the look by decorating it for each season - see hat for St. Pat's.  When a student loses a tooth, get a gold sticky star and place it on their white tooth on the wall.  By the end of the year everyone will see how many teeth were lost by your students.
