FALL BULLETIN BOARD

One of my favorites bulletin boards.  You get fall leaves from a hobby store to format the bulletin board.  Then you add whatever you wish.  Very easy.  My fall leaves lasted years!

SEASONAL CAPSULE

Taken from Copycat Press 1992.  It is out-of-print - http://www.wix.com/allenheathers/copycat-magazine-fan-page#!about  If I was doing this at home, I would change the boxes to say bedroom instead of classroom.

HAND AND SPONGE ART

This project takes several days to complete.  You need plenty of counter space to 'dry' each part of the art.  An alternative is Kids Texture taken from Copycat Press.

Start with each student sponge painting a blue background all over the white construction paper.  Sprinkle salt to add a neat effect to the paper.  Let dry.  Next, have each student dip an arm from elbow to fingertips in brown paint and help place their arm on the center of the paper toward the bottom.  Let dry.  Then, have students dip the side of their fist for flowers.  Have a choice of colors, but make sure that their arm is clean for each new color and remind the students not to print over an existing wet color because it will turn muddy.

FALLING LEAVES

Activity was taken from Copycat Press.  It is out-of-print. http://stores.ebay.com/Copycat-Store   http://homemakersjournal.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/sad-farewell-to-copy-cat-magazine/

I love the tree on the first page.  I made it into a poster, colored it with fall colors and laminated it.  I had a few additional leaves pressed out to make an 'interactive' bulletin board.  You could have the students work on math facts, concepts taught, parts of speech....

SCARECROW BULLETIN BOARD

This is a cute bulletin board or door cover.  Use the pattern to blow up the scarecrow to the size you need.  Color the scarecrow and then laminate so you can use it time and again.  I cut the crows out of black construction paper and then laminated.  After you put the scarecrow together you can add straw fringe at the neck, arms, and legs by cutting and crumpling tissue paper.

WE GIVE THANKS BULLETIN BOARD

Display thankful thoughts written by  your students.    Make a turkey body.  Laminate it so it can be used every year. This is the center of your Thankful Thought Bulletin Board.  It actually is in 2 sections.  The neck overlaps onto the body.  I colored it with chalk and then laminated it.  It has kept its bight, bold colors for years.  Now for the student part of the board... Give each student a feather copied onto colored paper.  Students fill in the feather with a list of "thank-yous". These feathers are tucked behind the turkey to finish your Board.  When you take the board down, put the feathers in the Journal/Memory Book.  The Language Arts Concept I focused on was 'things in a series' and where the commas went.   Enjoy reading all the THANKFUL THOUGHTS.

THE WISHBONE - I WISH FOR

Remember the anticipation you felt as you made a wish and pulled as hard as you could on the turkey wishbone?  There's a little bit of dreamer in all of us.  Ask students to make a wish and explain why they would like this wish to come true.  Challenge the class to think of non-material wishes... for their family, for the environment, or for the world.  Have them write their wish and explanation inside the wishbone reproducible.    Cut out the wishbone and glue them to a piece of construction paper.  Display them on a bulletin board with the title "MAY ALL YOUR WISHES COME TRUE."  End product can be put in a Class Book or in Journal/Memory Book later.  You may choose to post on your website also.

RED LEAF, YELLOW LEAF

Read RED LEAF, YELLOW LEAF by Lois Ehlert.  Concepts: life cycle of tree and information about the parts of a tree.  Have students practice their best PENMANSHIP by copying the poem.  Students draw their face in the "window frame" making sure to fill the space and color neatly.  Place picture and poem on a construction paper.  Top the picture with maple leaves. http://homemakersjournal.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/red-leaf-yellow-leaf/
