Lesson 2
(M) This week's theme is JUNGLE.  The vocabulary word is vines - vines are plants with long, thin bendable stems; they grow along the ground or climb up trees, etc.

Create a jungle obstacle course by using cushions, pillows, chairs, blankets etc.  Put on some music... a great selection is Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns... and act out different jungle animals according to the sound of the music.  Loud music can be for elephants and tigers, and soft music can be for birds and monkeys.

Have your children act out the following adapted rhyme.

Give your child a printout of the (capital) letter B to color.  
  • Teach your child to trace the shape of the letter B using his finger.  You can trace in pudding, finger paint, a shallow tray (cookie sheet) filled with rice or beans, etc.

  • Post the letter B on your learning poster.

(F) Fine Motor Skills Activity: 
Find a printout of your child's favorite jungle animal.  Create thin strips of green construction paper to represent grass.  Let your child glue the "grass" strips onto the printout to hide the animal in the grass.

ANIMAL CRACKER ART
Supplies needed:
Light Blue Construction Paper
Animal Crackers
Glue
Crayons or markers (Crayons work better)
Give each child a sheet of light blue construction paper and let them create a scene for their animal crackers to appear in.  (Prepare an example for them to look at).
After each child has completed their scene just flue the animal crackers to their picture.
  
SAFARI HUNT
Decorate toilet paper rolls as binoculars and go on a safari.  Hide animals all over and pretend to put on backpacks, hats etc.  Then stop in the middle of the hunt to have a drink of water because it is so hot.
